President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a request to the National Assembly for the confirmation of Ola Olukoyede as the new Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC based on an Act of law his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo stated was not needed.
According to the EFCC Act 2004 the President has the power to appoint an Executive Chairman to the Commission SUBJECT TO CONFIRMATION by the Senate, and section 171 of the 1999 Constitution.

As the law dictates the pioneer chairman of the EFCC Nuhu Ribadu, his predecessor Farida Waziri and Ibrahim Lamorde were all screened and confirmed by the NASS Senate.

Despite this Mr Osinbajo, a Professor, Pastor, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, claimed Mr Ibrahim Mustafa Magu, a perennial offender, did not need it.
In his word, The VP said: “I fully agree with Falana that there was no need in the first place to have presented Mr. Magu for confirmation.”
Professor Osinbajo, even after the Department of State Security Service, DSS presented an indicting report about Mr Magu, continued to support the corrupt officer, who the law makers had rejected twice.
Thy had followed an advice given by the secret police which stated that Mr Magu, who is from Borno, would eventually constitute as liability to the fight against corruption if he is confirmed.
But more than two years after his first rejection, Mr Magu remains in office.
Staff who first alerted DENISAURUS News to issues of internal corruption at the agency, continue to report to this paper the atrocious act of their boss all of which has been published on this website.

DENISAURUS News, the first to report the DSS report and Nigeria’s suspension from a world financial intelligence body, was made to understand that Mr Magu was being kept so as to be used to oppress opposition members in 2019.
Now, President Buhari has with the advice of his deputy written a letter to the NASS Senate asking them to confirm Mr Magu’s Chief of Staff as the new Secretary of the Commission.
The President in his letter states that “in compliance with the provision of Section 2(3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act 2010, I write to request for confirmation of Olanipekun Olukoyede, Esq for appointment as the Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Find attached a copy of his Curriculum Vitae.
“While looking forward to the usual expeditious consideration of the Distinguished Senate, please accept, Mr. Senate President, assurances of my highest consideration.”
Did not the VP say the EFCC Act is not needed and the Senate has no power to confirm, a statement that led to a resolution where lawmakers refused to screen nominees for more than six month in retaliation to the false statement.
By sending the request for Mr Olukoyede’s confirmation is the VP admitting that the Senate does have the right to reject Mr Magu.
If yes, why is Mr Magu still in office and despite his promotion which we exclusively reported in March 2018, has not he resumed for the mandatory Senior Executive Course at the National Institue of Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS in Kuru, Jos.

It is obviously clear now that Professor Osinbajo is desperate to have the anti-graft agency in his control.
It is why he nominated a close ally Bolaji Owansanoye, to head the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC.

It is another reason why he would rather have Mr Olukoyede, a man who we know to frequent marabouts as secretary of the commission, instead of a professional like Chile OKOROMA.

So far, Nigerians have seen members of the opposition being harassed by the EFCC. One recent case is the tweet posted by the anti-graft commission after Ayo Fayose’s party lost the Governorship elections.
“Parri is over” Mr Magu’s EFCC tweeted few hours after Kayode Fayemi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress was announced as winner.

Many waited to see a similar tweet from the EFCC after the Osun governorship election.
But, Mr Magu who wears the re-election pin of President Buhari, did not get to sanction that tweet, as he was busy drafting that defence response to the Honkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, HSBC.

Either way, it has become audible to the deaf and visible to the blind what way the EFCC is taking under the leadership of President Buhari, a man who promised to “kill corruption.”
Those who still don’t get it should understand that the fight against corruption is a ruse, it is a persecution of perceived enemies.
Sources say that if Mr Olukoyede is confirmed by the Bukola Saraki led senate, the VP would use all instrument available to completely finish his enemies and it will be a coast to victory in the 2019 elections.
