Ibrahim Mustafa Magu tried to take centre stage at the recently concluded anti-corruption summit in Yola, Adamawa – unfortunately during one of his act he was rebuffed by the President.
Government sources say the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC decided to hand out badges to those present at the summit.
Mr Magu, 56, wanted to pin an EFCC badge on President Muhammadu Buhari, but the 75-year-old President scolded him and asked him not to do so.
According to our source, the anti-graft boss who is yet to secure the conviction of any politically exposed person is very worried, he thinks he has run out of favour with President Buhari.
Recently, Mr Magu was seen spending time with a pastor from Kogi state named Emmanuel Omale of the Divine Hand of God Prophetic Ministries International, Abuja.
In the past, he associated with marabouts from Niger and Chad, and a spiritualist called Sat Guru Maharaj Ji from Ibadan, Oyo State. DENISAURUS News is not sure why he has frequented their worship place.
Meanwhile, despite President Buhari’s promise to kill corruption, it has worsened since he was elected, the lastet corruption perception index has shown.
The figure released by Transparency International, TI today showed Nigeria was scored 27/100 and ranked 148 out of 180 countries.
By contrast, when Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was leading in 2015, Nigeria scored 26/100 and was ranked 136.
The index ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and business people, uses a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean.
This is a clear indictment of the Nigerian Presidency which has supported Ibrahim Mustafa Magu as acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC though an indicting report from the secret police hangs over his head.
Mr Magu, a level 14 Deputy Commissioner of Police, who is described as a liability to the corruption fight by the Department of State Security Service, has been plagued by allegations of corruption from staff members of the anti-graft agency.
DENISAURUS News exclusively reported in May 2017 that Nigeria’s was suspended from a world Financial Intelligence Unit because of Mr Magu.
The Egmont group, stated that the “corrupt” officer was divulging confidential information to media allies.
Mr Magu who was also accused of engaging in media propaganda, is said to be using information gathered from Nigeria’s Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU to blackmail opponents.
No politically exposed persons have been convicted during Mr Magu’s reign at the EFCC.
And several incompetent application have been filed by lawyers privately engaged by Mr Magu’s led EFCC.
One of such cases was noticed during the challenge against the Senate President’s asset declaration at the Supreme Court.
The judge, Justice Tanko Mohammed lambasted Rotimi Jacobs, who filed the “incompetent application.”
