An armed police officer stationed at a Florida school where a gunman killed 17 people, has resigned after it was discovered he did not intervene.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said, he was “Sick to my stomach,” because the officer who should have “killed the killer never went in.”

Deputy Scot Peterson, who resigned after being suspended is said to have been “absolutely on campus” on the day Nikolas Cruz, 19, killed 17 students at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Mr Peterson, 54 “was armed, he was in uniform,” but he “remained outside for upwards of four minutes.”
