The acting Chair of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Mustafa Magu, is being tormented by one of his ‘man-friday,’ DENISAURUS News can authoritatively report.
Few weeks ago, this paper revealed how Mr Magu got another challenger, who happens to be working tooth and nail to ensure that the anti-graft boss is not nominated again by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The man an Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, from Yobe, is a former ally of the Mr Magu, the only anti-graft boss to be rejected by the lawmakers.
Mr Magu who was rejected twice and denied the chance to be the substantive chairman of the anti-graft commission based on an indicting report from the Department of State Services, DSS, is still desperate about staying put at the commission.
He hopes the ninth Senate led by Ahmed Lawan would be authorised to screen and confirm him. However, this paper understand from sources close to the Senate President that Mr Magu’s chances are slim to none.
Dr Lawan happens to come from the state as the ACP who plans to work against Mr Magu.
Sensing that Mr Magu would not be retained the ACP is now jostling among all others to take over from the Borno Police Commissioner at the EFCC.
DENISAURUS News is in the know that the ACP, believes Mr Magu might try to push him out of the commission over his ambition.
The ACP, sources say now plan to unleash terror on Mr Magu, should he make any attempt to cow him, following the way anti-graft boss often ridicule and relegate his former lackeys who fall apart with him.
According to one of our sources, “a one time close ally of our boss disclosed to his associate that, Mr Magu got pissed when he realised that the said head of a south-south office of the anti-graft agency, turned against him.
“Unfortunately, when Mr Magu made attempt to sanction the Assistant Commissioner of Police, he denied pushing for a different Chair for the anti-graft agency, but this still didn’t make sense to the anti-graft Czar.”
The source further narrated that “Mr Magu’s anger was short-lived with the intervention of Senator Ahmad Lawan, Senate President, who happens to be from the same state and a benefactor to the said ACP at the south-south office of the EFCC.”
Insiders say that Mr Magu now has to toe the line with the ACP and is not able to send him out of the commission, unlike all other “Man’s Fridays” he’s used and dumped.
DENISAURUS News was informed that EFCC’s Magu now live in fear, finding it difficult to act against the said senior Police Officer, who happens to share a common ties through sectional and family affiliation with the anti-graft boss.
On the other hand, Mr Magu having realised that he is still pushing to be retained by President Buhari, through nomination to NASS Senate, is presently dancing to the tune of the Senate President, who has warned that the ACP be left untouched by the whip of anti-graft boss.
This newspaper is well informed about Mr Magu proceeding to NIPSS Course in weeks to come. However, the anti-graft boss is doing everything possible to keep his seat at the agency, having been left to bear the brunt by his former supporter, Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo. DENISAURUS News can report.
EFCC’s Magu who has been described as a ‘perennial offender’ and a ‘liability on anti-corruption war’ by the secret police, is hell bent to impose himself on staff members at the agency, who have continually cried out over perpetual victimisation and harassment.
Staff members have in the past sent in several petitions to the presidency and NASS Senate, to outline the impunity and financial infractions of their boss.
DENISAURUS News learned that the Assistant Commissioner of Police is holding the “knife and meat” on Mr Magu, insisting that “should the anti-graft boss makes any move to de-second him back to the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, he is coming back in full force to fight back.
“I am not going to tolerate that his uncouth behaviour of the one who is under the influence of drugs. Wallahi, if Magu dares me, I will see how the NASS Senate would confirm him if he is renominated. Which I know that is even impossible and over my dead body,” sources who heard the ACP told DENISAURUS News.
At the time of filing this report, the EFCC Spokesman, Tony Orilade, could not be reached to ascertain the level of acrimony that is brewing between Mr Magu and his lieutenant, who is an ACP, heading a south-south office of the anti-graft agency.
