The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has today confirmed the removal of the Port Harcourt Zonal head.
DENISAURUS News had in December 2019, exclusively reported that Ibrhaim Mustafa Magu, the acting chairman of the anti-graft agency, was to dump his lackey from the south-south region to the EFCC Academy, following a fall out over “kick-backs” received from owners of seized oil trucks.
This paper uncovered that while the Presidency was told about 244 oil tankers recently seized from suspects, Mr Magu has “unduly” released some of the tankers back to the owners through his lackey.
Sources in the agency, said their boss, Mr Magu, described as a “perennial offender” by the secret police, DSS, has ânot been honest and has released some of these trucks to the owners behind the scene.â

The source said “45 out of the 244 oil tankers was released to the owners, through one Mr AbdulRasheed Bawa â a known lackey of the EFCC boss at the anti-graft agency. The senior staff member who acted on behalf of Mr Magu, did a deal with the suspects whose oil tankers were seized. He returned the trucks and collected some money from the suspects.â

Mr Bawaâs downfall came as a result of greed and the inability to satisfy an even greedier boss. Those familiar with the case say that the suspects involved in the already released 45 trucks paid a âhandsome sum to have their tankers back.â Unfortunately, Mr Bawa âdid not give enough kickback to Mr Magu.â

Failure to provide enough kick back to Mr Magu has resulted in Mr Bawaâs demotion â and subsequent removal to the EFCC Academy in Karu, Abuja.
DENISAURUS News investigation discovered that it is not the first time Mr Magu has given oral orders to core staff members, and left them to deal with the consequences alone.
DENISAURUS News had reported in the past that Mr Magu often times gives orders, but he never sends an official written notes about it. One of the times, the anti-graft boss did so was the order given to decorate Ike Ekweremadu as an anti-corruption ambassador.
The decision to decorate Senator Ekweremadu, the former Deputy President of the Senate was condemned by the public, and a core staff  who served as the liaison officer at the National Assembly,  was made to take the blame for it. Sulemain Bakari had not gotten a written order from Mr Magu before carrying the order, DENISAURUS News was informed.

Document leaked by this paper in 2016, also showed that Mr Magu was living a “double life.” The Department of State Services, DSS, in its indicting report against Mr Magu stated that he is a perennial offender and “a liability on the anti-corruption War’ of the present administration.”
According to the secret police, it is in Mr Magu’s character to collect kickbacks through proxies – one of such person is an arrested Air Vice Marshall, Umar Mohammed.
Consequently, the DSS advised that Mr Magu’s nomination be rejected.
âIn the light of the foregoing, Magu failed the integrity test and will eventually constitute a liability to the anti-corruption drive of the present administration.â
The Commission today released a statement saying Mr Bawa has been replaced by Usman Imam, an Assistant Commissioner of Police.
“A new Zonal Head has been appointed for the Port Harcourt Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
He is Mr Usman Imam, an Assistant Commissioner of Police. His appointment followed the redeployment of the former Head of the Zone, Abdulrasheed Bawa who was moved to the EFCC Academy, Karu, Abuja,” the statement reads.
