Ibrahim Mustafa Magu, who the Secret Police described as a perennial offender and liability to President Muhammadu Buhari’s corruption fight, fears he is on his last legs at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, after a failed spiritual consultation to avoid a mandatory senior executive programme at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS.

The programme is a compulsory part of a promotion to Mr Magu, 57, which DENISAURUS News exclusively reported in March 2018, before it was even published by the Police Service Commission, PSC.

Mr Magu having realised things are not working in his favour paid a visit to his key supporter to ask for help.

Mr Magu, the only person whose nomination as substantive chairman of the EFCC was rejected by senior lawmakers in the eight National Assembly, went to the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo again a few days ago to plead that he interfere one more time to stop his move to NIPSS.

But those familiar say the VP who is currently fighting a tough battle with those very close to President Buhari, confessed to the anti-graft boss that he is no longer able to help.

The source said Professor Osinbajo, who once begged President Buhari not to sack Mr Magu as he is the face of the corruption fight, said:”It is not longer in my hands.”

Staff who asked to remain anonymous due to fears for their safety say that once Mr Magu is replaced, “Nigerians can expect to see more report of corruption made against the VP,” who once asked the anti-graft boss to close down a unit investigating his political mentor.

The anti-graft boss who has a poor record with his own staff members, is currently unhappy. But sources at the office confirmed that a countdown has began in anticipation to Mr Magu’s departure.

“We prayed and fasted and our prayers are at last being answered,” a police staff noted to a DENISAURUS News reporter.

This media house has constantly stood in solidarity with staff members, who say they have been bullied and harassed by their boss.

The newspaper which has spoken to hundreds of staff members at the commission from various region, was the first to exclusively report the allegation of diversion of assets recovered against Mr Magu.

It was also the first media to report Nigeria’s suspension from a world financial intelligence unit (EGMONT Group). At the time Mr Magu denied the NFIU suspension, instead, claiming that Adenike Lucas, the editor of DENISAURUS News was being sponsored by paymasters, an allegation that turned to be false as the suspension reported exclusively by this paper in May 2017 was correct.

This paper also gathered proof of abuse and corruption perpetrated by the anti-graft boss. The allegations were later compiled as evidence in the indicting report written by the Department of State Services, DSS in October 2016.

When the DSS under the leadership of Lawal M Daura was to write a second report to the Senate, DENISAURUS News was the only media house to recover a copy, and we were able to report the details a month before it was read out on the floor of the upper chamber.
