Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, a former Chief Justice of Nigeria has died aged 76.
The jurist who hailed from Ushongo in Benue State, succeeded Idris Legbo Kutigi.
He was later replaced by Justice Dahiru Musdapher. The retired Jigawa born justice passed away early this year.
Sources confirmed that Justice Kastina-Alu, who was CJN between 2009 and 2011 died at about 2am on Wednesday at Chida Orthopaedic Hospital, Gudu, Abuja.
Awassam Bassey, Senior Special Assistant to Justice Walter Onnoghen, the current CJN has also confirmed the passing of Justice Kastina-Alu who would have turned 77 on August 28.
“I can confirm that the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mrs. Hadizatu Mustapha, sent me a WhatsApp message to that effect about an hour ago confirming the death of the former CJN.
“I have just called the Chief Registrar to confirm that this is indeed the situation. That the Personal Assistant of the former CJN called her at 3.00pm Nigerian time to inform her of the demise.”
In 2011, Justice Katsina Alu escaped death after a heavy wind blew down a Melina tree which fell on him and his wife.
The couple were rushed to Nyon Hospital in Gboko, Benue state. Unfortunately, Mrs Katsina-Alu was not so lucky as she did not survive.
