A man called Darren Osborne has been identified as the perpetrator of last night’s terror attack which took place close to a popular mosque in North London.
Mr Osborne, a dad of four reportedly shouted: “I want to kill all Muslims” before using a white van to mow down worshippers coming from the Finsbury Park Mosque, where they were observing taraweeh, to mark the last ten days of Ramadan.
It is the fourth terrorist attack to take place in the UK in the past recent months.
Ten people were injured with two said to be seriously injured. The police say that a man has died following the attack.
The 47-year-old suspect who was confronted by passers by and held down until police came was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been further arrested for the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism including murder and attempted murder.
The Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said that the attack was being treated “as a terrorist attack.”
“This was quite clearly an attack on Muslims who looked like they were probably Muslims and they were coming from a prayer meeting. We treat this as a terrorist attack and we in the Met are as shocked as anybody in this local community or across the country at what has happened.
