The government’s fight against corruption, spearheaded by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, led by Ibrahim Mustafa Magu, has of recent made more of a headline for catching “Yahoo-Yahoo” guys.
Among the internet fraudsters known as “yahoo-yahoo” arrested by Nigeria’s leading anti-corruption agency, were 94 young boys from Oshogbo in October this year.
Before that the anti-graft commission is reported to have raided many clubs and other social areas, where laptops and phones were seized.
However, while the arrests of yahoo-yahoo boys have become frequent in the news, high profile personality with huge allegation of corruption hanging over their neck remain free
According to a popular social media influencer, Mr Magu’s EFCC has turned a blind eye and has failed to investigate politically exposed person such as Nasiru Danu.

“Nasiru Danu was the logistic director to the GMB Campaign org,” @segalink, real name Segun Awosanya tweeted.
He also accused the anti-graft boss of turning a blind eye to allegation of corruption made against the Governor of Kano and a party chieftain from Lagos.

In 2018, Dapo Apara, said Bola Tinubu, owner of Alpha Beta, a tax consultancy firm which has been collecting Internally Generated Revenue, IGR for Lagos State since 2002, has generated billions but has avoided paying tax.
Alhaji Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos, was also accused of moving monies in a bullion van during the 2019 elections. But these allegations were not investigated by the anti-graft agency.
“In fact it was affirmed that he procured the bike crashed by the President’s son. He was deported of late from the UK under the allegation of money laundering with Millions of Pounds in cash & fake Maltesse passport.
“Since his deportation, has @officialEFCC invited him for questioning let alone deployed the erotic Section 7 (1) of EFCc establishment Act, 2004 to investigate his source of wealth? Just for your info, I know Danu from the days when he used to be bailed out for petty crimes.”

Mr Awonsaya, the activist who began the ENDSARS campaign to end police brutality, insists that the EFCC under Mr Magu has gone rogue and it has refused to “apprehend those with unjustified riches.
“Shall we talk about corruption within the EFCC itself? You may need to sit down to digest this because it is quite lengthy and will take time to navigate its ugliness. EFCC can’t continue to fool Nigerians with their intellectual & moral wilful ignorance as balkanized.”
DENISAURUS News, was the first media house to provide an exclusive report written against Mr Magu in 2016.
In the same year, staff of the commission exclusively informed this paper that the former DG of the Secret Service had added a further 10 counts to the charges against Mr Magu.
The report written by Lawal Daura convinced the Senate and prevented them from confirming Mr Magu, a “perennial offender” as the fourth substantive chairman of the anti-graft commission.

Though Mr Magu, a Commissioner of Police, whose promotion was exclusively reported by this media before it was announced by the Police Service Commission, PCS, was rejected twice by the Senate, he remains in office in acting position.

Before now, he had the complete support of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who EFCC staff members argues incorrectly interpreted the EFCC Act in order to keep Mr Magu in office.

However, the VP is also facing stiff challenges from the Presidency over allegation of corruption.

Government sources familiar with the situation believe that with the VP”s loss of support would affect his political accomplices, including Mr Magu, who is going to be asked to go on a mandatory Senior Executive Course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, in Jos, next month.
