A demand has been made for the All Progressives Congress to withdraw the Senatorial ticket given to Ibikunle Amosun, the Governor of Ogun state after he openly declared support for an opposition candidate.

Governor Amosun, who is to stand in Ogun Central Senatorial District in the coming election promised to work against Dapo Abiodun, the Guber candidate of the APC who defeated Akinlade Adekunle his preferred choice.

The Governor says he is still a member of the APC, however, at a stakeholder meeting in Abeokuta on Monday, he promised to “use everything I have to support” Mr Akinlade against his party’s candidate, Prince Abiodun.

He said: “When these people came, they told me they are leaving the APC, I said ‘no’ but I couldn’t stop them. In fact, Akinlade has my full support.

“I am not going to stop him. Everything I have, I will use to support him. Let them try whatever they want to try, we also have our strategies and I am not going to hide behind one finger.

“I remain in APC because that’s what those people want, they want us to leave APC but they are joking.”

The Executive Chairman and Secretary of the Buhari Media Organisation, BMO, who are among those actively campaigning for the victory of the APC in the 2019 elections, say that Governor Amosun is not loyal and should not be allowed to get away with the act.

A statement signed by the chairman Niyi Akinsiju, and secretary, Cassidy Madueke, on Tuesday, recommended that the Senatorial ticket given to Governor Amosun should be withdrawn.

“We at BMO, therefore, call on APC leadership to sanction these leaders by withdrawing their party tickets and give them to more loyal members.

“We are disappointed that some ranking APC members who are actually founding members of the ruling party have encouraged some of their associates who lost out in the recent party primaries to seek elective offices on the platforms of other parties.

“No manner how big these politicians are, they have to be subjected to the same rules guiding all party members and not be allowed to get away with acts of disloyalty.”
