Members of staff at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC are adamant about their claims about their boss. 

They say  the Acting Chair of the EFCC, Ibrahim Mustafa Magu is “indeed an embarrassment to the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

They make their statement based on a recent utterance made by Mr Magu over the recent raid on judges by the Department of States Services, DSS.

On 7th and 8 of October, 2016, the DSS carried out a clandestine swooping in on some Justices of the Supreme Court, Judges of Federal High Courts and some from State High Courts.

This was embarked upon, sequel to the anti-corruption campaign of President Buhari, who had promised when campaigning for the top job in the 2015 General Elections, to lead the fight against corruption, tackle insecurity, revamp the economy / job creation, among all other pledges.

Sources within the EFCC believed that “the arrest of these judges could be seen as PMB trying to fulfill one of his promises to fight corruption which many believe has become imbibed within the judiciary.”

TRYING TO EMBARRASS PMB’S GOVERNMENT

In the past, the Editor-In-Chief of DENISAURUS Newspaper had warned on several allegations on Mr Magu’s consequent plan to embarrass the government, PMB’s appointees and associates.

There have been numerous attempts to tarnish the image of Chief of Staff Abba Kyari, Gen AB Dambazau, AGF Abubakar Malami, DG DSS Lawal M Daura, Lt Gen TY Buratai, Alh Mamman Daura et al.

The anti-graft agency’s boss who is  not relenting continues to use his New York ally Sahara Reporters SR, to achieve the mission, owing to his desperate move to get confirmed as the substantive EFCC Chair.

JUDGES ARREST SUPPORTED BY BODIES AND NIGERIANS

The wake of events which surrounded the Judges arrests, there have been various clamour by those who supported the action of the President, and those who felt it was a breach of the Independence of the Judicial Arm of government.

Even though, some bodies who had countered the action earlier, subsequently realised after being shown overwhelming evidence against the Judges, that this was the best way the Executive Arm was doing to save the image of the judiciary.

The Nigeria Bar Association NBA, Bodies of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, National Judicial Commission, Civil Society Organisations and other smaller young bodies within the judiciary, gave their nod and support to the action of the President.

Those following this incident say that corruption within the Judicial Arm of government is long overdue to be purged.

 ‘I KNOW IT ALL’

The AGF had authorised the raid because the National Judicial Council, NJC refused to cooperate.

Senior advocates such as  Femi Falana declared their support for the arrest of corrupt judges.

Mr Falana even advised that the judges arrested by DSS be arraigned quickly.

Despite, gaining the support of prominent senior lawyers and judges, Mr Magu has come out to slam the raid.

Insiders at the EFCC believe their egotistical boss “thinks his yet to be confirmed qualifications could put him at par with most legal luminaries and top government officials such as; President Buhari; Vice- President, Yemi Osinbajo SAN; Attorney-General. of Federation, Abubakar Malami SAN; Prof Itse Sagay SAN; Director General of the Department of State Security,  DSS, Lawal M Daura et al, who had scrutinised all the preliminaries that led to the arrest of the judges.”

According to staff who have complained of bullying, Mr Magu of EFCC “wants everyone to think he is Mr integrity and believes “I Know All.”

Staff are beginning to wonder what “Mr Magu of EFCC could be thinking to have come out to say the action of the DSS was “illegal and unconstitutional”, without realising that the action of DSS must have been approved by President Buhari and/or the AGF.

“This goes to show the kind of person such an anti-graft agency boss is like. By him comparing himself with great people mentioned above, it is shameful.”

MAGU CLAIMS SABOTAGE INSTEAD OF CORRECTING HIS IMPUNITY

Staff say even at the moment, Mr Magu of EFCC has not been able to deny or refute all these allegations against him.

Rather, the Anti-graft agency’s boss claims it’s  the work of “saboteurs” But, the whistle-blowers say they have surmountable evidence stacked against Mr Magu.

For example, core operative are not backing down from a claim they made on the resignation of some EFCC Core Managerial Staff was untrue, despite Mr Magu’s denial.

DENISAURUS News who made the decision to stand with core staff in their fight against injustice was supported by a national newspaper who has also given a detailed account on the resignation of a staff member at the HR department.

Staff have once again appealed to President Buhari for him “to look into their plight in the hand of Mr Magu of EFCC.”

They say the expose published on this newspaper should not be seen as ” corruption fighting back” like Mr Magu may proclaim, but as a “whistle-blowing” avenue to help put the government in the know of the hidden secret impunity, atrocities, victimisation, bullying, blackmailing by the anti-graft agency’s boss.”
