The Arewa Community in Edo is throwing its support behind the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki in the upcoming Gubernatorial election in the state.
The Secretary to Sarkin Hausawa of Benin, Mohammed Baba, who announced the endorsement of the community for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP stated that “most of us here were born in Benin City and have seen the tremendous work you have done; you have transformed the state secretariat and the technical college. We all know how these places were before you revamped them.
“With your performance, we have no choice than to support the governor to sustain his developmental strides across the state. We are going to support you with our Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) come September 19, 2020.”
Mallam Baba also noted that the incumbent Governor who is at loggershead with his predecessor Adams Oshiomole, who also served as the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, “is a good man and a good governor; he has transformed the state and our weapon to vote for him is our PVCs, which we are going to use on that day in his favour.”
Mr Oshiomole did not want his successor to get a second term on the platform of the APC, despite calls for him to be allowed by senior party members.
With the influence of the former Governor, Governor Obaseki was disqualified from running as a candidate of the APC and was eventually accepted by the PDP.
Mr Oshiomole has since been removed from the post of APC National Chairman.
Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a former member of the PDP, who ran against Governor Obaseki in 2016, has been adopted as the candidate of the ruling APC.
