Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo, has secured the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, few days after joining them from the All Progressives Congress, APC.
DENISAURUS News understands that 1,952 delegates voted for the Edo Governor, who is seeking a second term.
Governor Obaseki, who joined the PDP on June 19 following a long dispute with Adams Oshiomole, the sacked chairman of the APC, had no challenger.
“I express my heartfelt gratitude to our great party, the @OfficialPDPNig, the leaders, delegates, members and all Edo people for the opportunity to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming governorship election. God bless you all,” Governor Obaseki wrote in a tweet.
Governor Obaseki will now face Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a former PDP candidate who has now decamped to the APC.
Mr Ize-Iyamu when he challenged Governor Obaseki for the position in 2016, was revealed by Mr Oshiomole, as someone who “poured acid” in the private part of a fellow student and was rusticated for the act.
In the video now circulating the web, Mr Oshiomole noted that the Edo APC guber candidate, was rusticated from UNIBEN “for two years because he poured somebody acid and today the person was paralyzed.”
