Dino Melaye, the representative for Kogi West Senatorial district on Friday surrendered himself to officers who had laid siege to his house in Abuja for over a week.
DENISAURUS News understands that the politician could not be taken into custody immediately, but was moved to a hospital in Garki, after he collapsed during his arrest.
This paper which has informants in the presidency, also gathered that the police failed in its attempt to rope in Senator Melaye over the booing of the President.
Our reliable source made it known that Senator Melaye is seen as the leader of the group that booed President Muhammadu Buhari during the presentation of the 2019 budget. A claim the lawmaker has denied in a statement seen by DENISAURUS News.
Gideon Ayodele, media aide to Senaotor Melaye said: “For the avoidance of doubt, Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye was absent at the televised 2019 budget presentation session and hereby challenges anyone with contrary proof to come forward with such.”
Senator Melaye, 45, who is wanted over his alleged role in the shooting of a police officer believes he has been a target of the Nigerian police following several expose of illegalities within the executive arm of government.
Senator Melaye, who served as a house of representative member in 2014, joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, but, being unable to stay silent in the face of injustice, the anti-corruption tsar was forced to move back to the Peoples Democratic Party along with the Senate President who was later absolved by the Supreme Court of falsifying his asset declaration form.
The move from the PDP to the APC has seen both lawmakers targeted unfairly by the police. Senator Melaye has constantly argued that the police led by Ibrahim Idris was planning to inject him with a dangerous substance.
The police has denied this. According to the Police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, the lawmaker, father of three, who turned 45 today, is in a “stable condition,” and is only trying to avoid the ongoing case of conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide against him.
