Dino Melaye is one of Nigeria’s most popular lawmakers.
Senator Melaye, who represents Kogi-West Senatorial District, did not only survive the sponsored plot by his state Governor to remove him from office, he did it with an overwhelming majority.
After being manhandled by the police, the anti-corruption activist returned to the Upper Chamber on May 30, 2018, with more courage.

Senator Melaye, on returning stood firm against President Muhammadu Buhari who claimed the 2018 budget was not signed on time because of the National Assembly, when in fact the delay was caused by the heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDAs who refused to attend committee meetings to defend their budget.
“Mr. President should refrain from playing to the gallery and milking the naivety of the masses on the issue,” he said.
The executive are desperate to muzzle him but, he is having none of it. Having survived so many other plot to get him to stop talking about corruption in the executive arm, the senator quick in wit comes back to taunt them.
This time in a tweet, he uses Jaga Jaga, a song that got Eedris Abdulkareem in trouble with a former President.
The tweet, “APC scatter scatter, everything Jaga Jaga. Put broom in the air,” is further sign that the ruling party is facing more internal problem.
It is worth noting that on Senator Melaye’s return to NASS, he made a request that his seat be moved. He no longer wants to seat with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
This Wednesday, a chieftain of the party, Buba Galadima announced that a splinter group, the Reformed All Progressives Congress had been created for aggrieved members.

Many of those expected to leave the APC, are mighty men of the party. The move will cause defeat for the broom party. Clearly, a scattered broom cannot sweep anywhere clean.
The representative for Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani gives a better analogy about the failure of the broom in a poem.
“The Broom should sweep the litters, the waste and the garbage it encounters and not pluck the eyes of the sweeper.
“The Broom must not be stained with oil or blood for it to sweep so clean.
“The Broom must be Broom and not swords or chains or else it’s not Broom.
“The Broom should be an assembly of strands to sanitize and not arrows for hunting.
“The Broom should not bare The dirt of foes to the podium and bury that of friends under the carpet.
“The Broom must not sweep away only men who speak and leave behind men with swords.
“The Broom must not remove the cobweb afar and leave untouched the cobwebs a near.
“The Broom can only clean if it’s also clean.”
