👤 EXCLUSIVE: Adenike Lucas and Danjuma Aliyu, DENISAURUS News

The arrested boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Mustafa Magu is drowning, but his cronies, the likes of Itsey Sagay,  are really trying their best to save him, staff of the anti-graft agency have explained to DENISAURUS News.

The commission staff, who had in the past spoken to this paper, about how Mr Magu had illegally employed children of members of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, PACAC, revealed that the unprofessional link remains between Mr Magu and members of the board.

Though they wished to remain anonymous, those speaking with DENISAURUS News, seem very aware of the commission, noting that so much recruitment scandals had taken place in the agency, with the children and relatives of Professor Sagay, the Chairman of PACAC included in the list of those illegally employed by Mr Magu.

Mr Magu, 58, a “perennial offender,” as described by the Department of State Services, DSS, is so desperate to remain at the anti-graft agency, despite failing the integrity test.

The 58-yer-old, police commissioner, who this paper reported his promotion exclusively, has tried many gimmick in order to stay-put in office.

Among the list of plans this paper has revealed about Mr Magu’s desperate attempt to remain in office, is the use of marabout and the offer of job slot to cronies – in return for their support.

This led many to scream out, stating that “the cronyism in the agency is extreme,” with the likes of Professor Sagay revealed to benefit so much by not only having their children in the agency, but they also use their links there to seek for money from donors all around the world.

PACAC Members are said to be “collecting between $3,000 to $5,000 from Chief Executives of ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs, on a regular basis, and often assure them of helping them off the hook of their ally and conspirator, Mr Magu.”

It is why a few days ago, one of the committee members Femi Odekunle is still supporting Mr Magu, despite the 22 allegations written against him.

Even with the fact that he can’t account for billions of naira, Professor Odekunle wants him in office and has released a statement to that effect.

Although some media reported that members of the committee have now distance itself from the comment from Professor Odekunle, this paper is not able to clarify if this is true. Because members, such as Professor Sagay have gone all out in the past to support Mr Magu’s shenanigan.

This is not the first time Professor Sagay, a law luminary has been accused of benefiting from the EFCC under Magu’s watch.

In 2017, DENISAURUS News was told that some members of the committee were benefiting through jobs schemes.

The committee which has supported Mr Magu’s benefits, despite report warning about his lack of integrity, should be probed, many in the commission said.

According to a police source, there were times when the abuse and victimisation of EFCC staff members was reported to Professor Sagay, “but guess what? He turned a blind eye.”

The EFCC staff members who took the issue to the PACAC Members say they were “deceived into thinking that they would help unravel all their allegations on Mr Magu.

However, when the anti-graft boss begin to sway their reasoning with dollars and employment, the PACAC Members sold out staff members at EFCC, who reached out over the impunities, bullying and Victimisation by Mr Magu against them, they said.

They say that Professor Sagay and others should be probed and in fact, the “PACAC should be disbanded as it is not even fit for purpose.”

“How many advice have they given President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue of corruption that has benefited the country?,” one asked. Adding that “if they were so great, how comes our rating at the Transparency International, TI, keeps sinking low?”

It was concluded that “PACAC is not fit for the purpose and should be dissolved or replaced with veterans in anti-graft war.”

It now seems like Professor Sagay, who was accused of duping his own late brother, might end up drowning with Mr Magu.

Professor Sagay who benefited money largesse from the commission, has gone on to fight tooth and nail for Mr Magu to remain in office, while he collects an ample salary from the presidency without any clear achievements.

And, when it became obvious that Professor Sagay, a supposed legal luminary, was now doing the bidding of Mr Magu, because of what he stands to gain, it was then that the President should have been advised to disband them, the staff explained.

DENSIAURUS News was informed that with the arrest of Mr Magu, PACAC has resurfaced to do its job in protecting Mr Magu.

Mr Magu also sensing that anything could happen anytime soon, after a memo sent from Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation to President Buhari, has secretly engaged one CSP. Idris to ensure all implicating and indicting evidence at home and in his office is removed from the sight of anyone, especially if a search would be conducted by the Panel, while he EFCC’s Magu would be in custody.
