Pierre Nkurunziza: Burundi’s President Who Held On Tightly To Power For 15-Years, Dies Unexpectedly

Pierre Nkurunziza, the President of Burundi, who first took office in 2005, and has constantly refused to leave office, has died aged 55.

The president of the late east-African country, whose ‘unexpected’  death was announced the government, was to step down in August, after 15-years, but he refused to go, although in the state – a president can run for two term and each term runs for seven years.

He  was said to have died after suffering a heart attack, 10 days after his wife was taken to hospital with Covid-19.

DENISAURUS News reported on Monday that the Governor of Abia has tested positive for the deadly disease that has killed many.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s former powerful Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari also died after contracting the virus while on a trip to Germany.

Many other prominent Nigerians – including the Emir of Rano, have died from the disease.
