“Impeached” Kogi Deputy Governor Says House Of Assembly’s Action Was Unconstitutional

The impeached Deputy Governor of Kogi State has said the action by the House of Assembly against him will not stand the “test of judiciary.”

Despite being cleared by a panel set up to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against him, Simon Achuba was impeached on Friday by the state assembly.

Speaking at a press conference, Mr Achuba, who has been at loggerhead with Governor Yahaya Bello over the withholding of his salaries, noted that his home has been cut off electricity.

The impeached politician stated at the press conference that he has since packed out of the Government house.

However, he is prepared to approach the courts in order to challenge his illegal removal from office.

“My purported impeachment last Friday by the state House of Assembly was unconstitutional and an illegality that will not stand the test of judiciary,” he said.

Governor Bello, who is seen as a Godson to President Muhammadu Buhari, is expected to send the name of his former Chief of Staff, Edward Onoja as the replacement for Mr Achuba.

Mr Onoja, this paper reported was selected as Governor Bello’s running mate in the November 2019 elections.
