A popular broadcast satellite service is sponsoring a festival in South Africa this month but Tiwa Savage, one of Africa’s biggest artist has promised not to attend.
The Kele-Kele love crooner, a Nigerian who is signed to Universal Music Group, will not grace the occasion hosted by DSTV on 21st of September because she is not happy “to watch the barbaric butchering of my people in SA.”
There has been a recent upsurge in violence against migrants in South Africa, with Nigerians being a major target.
On Monday, mobs in South Africa killed three Nigerians. Media reports shows that businesses owned by Nigerian nationals in the area were also looted and destroyed by the mobs, who are black indigenous South Africans who claim to be fed up of foreigners coming to their place.
This action was condemned by the Nigerian Government who has now summoned the South African High Commissioner in Nigeria for a meeting.
