The president of the 9th Senate, Ahmad Lawan has appointed Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia state as the chief whip. 

Senator Kalu, 59, who represents Abia north, under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, will be deputised by Aliyu Abdullahi Sabi, a member from Niger state.

Meanwhile, Yahaya Abdullahi, the lawmaker representing Kebbi north senatorial district was named Senate leader and Ajayi Borrofice was named the Senate deputy leader.

Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia south was announced as minority leader.

Emmanuel Bwacha, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party remains the deputy minority leader.

Senator Lawan shocked his party members when he appointed Festus Adedayo, a vocal critic of President Muhammadu Buhari has his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.

He had to withdraw the appointment after a series of protest was staged by loyalist of the President.
