👤 EXCLUSIVE: Adenike Lucas, DENISAURUS News
Ibrahim Musafa Magu plans to bribe a Senator from the South so as to secure his confirmation as substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, DENISAURUS News has discovered.
According to multiple sources, Mr Magu, whose nomination was rejected by the Senate on Thursday 15 December 2016, remains desperate, he has schemed up several plot to ensure he lands the top job, despite the indicting report against him by state intelligence officers.
Mr Magu who paid the former Senate Leader, Mohammed Ali-Ndume 100 Million last year, has offered the chairman of the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, Utazi Godfrey Chukwuk, N275 million so he would be cleared.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, recently confirmed that the confirmation of Mr Magu was pending until after the passage of the 2017 Appropriation Bill.
The Borno indigene desperately wants the anti-corruption committee to clear him as it is one of the conditions the Senate gave if it is to look at the re-nomination request sent by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo this year
Senate Gives Three Conditions Before It Can Clear Magu
Although, the Senate rejected Mr Magu, it later said it might reconsider its refusal to confirm his appointment if he was able to get clearance from the anti-corruption committee, a recant of the DSS report and clearance from the Presidency.
Last year, members of the National Assembly, NASS refused to confirm Mr Magu as the chairman of the anti-corruption agency following an intelligence report gathered by the Department of State Security.
The report clearly stated that Mr Magu had failed its integrity test and “would become a liability to the anti-corruption crusade of the present administration if confirmed.”
The DSS accused Mr Magu of using an arrested Air Commodore, Umar Mohammed as a front. Sensitive document belonging to the agency where found in Mr Mohammed’s Maitama house. Security operatives say Mr Mohammed was using these files to blackmail suspects.
In 2008, Mr Magu was suspended by the then head of the EFCC, Farida Waziri for what happens to be the same allegation.
Mr Magu, broke the rules of the Commission when as a level 14 officer, he decided to take files home.
Aside to these crimes, EFCC staff members have also accused Mr Magu of bullying, victimising and using police lackeys to carry out corrupt acts.
One of Mr Magu’s corrupt lackeys, Ilyasu Kwarbai, who headed the Lagos Zonal Office of the EFCC was returned to the mother organisation, the Nigerian Police Force as Mr Magu now see him as threat to his position.
DENISAURUS News also learned that a top Police Operational Head at the EFCC has been indicted in a bribery involving a Military General implicated in the recent Arms Deal Investigation.
The senior officer is said to have received the sum of N100 million from the suspect through the account of his wife.
Staff members believe that such an illegal deal could not have taken place without the arrow head, Mr Magu who authorises all the activities of the Ad Hoc Arms-Deal Team.
This month, the presidential panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe arms procurement between 2007 and 2015 was disbanded by the National Security Adviser, Mohammed Babagana Monguno.
The NSA chief dissolved the panel quickly to prevent an investigation which would confirm our expose on the corruption practiced during his time as Chief of commandant of the Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA.
Following months of investigation, Lawal Duara, the Director General of State Security Service, SSS advised for Senate to reject Mr Magu, because he was unfit to head the anti-graft agency.
It is worthy to note that in an effort to salvage the exposé that led to the non-confirmation of Mr Magu, the Premium Times, PT, whose editor has links with Mr Magu, had come out to say “two DSS Reports was sent to the NASS Senate”.
According to PT, the initial report sent to NASS Senate, though had the same indictment against Mr Magu, but it was recommended that the anti-graft agency’s boss should be favourably considered.
DENISAURUS News had faulted this dubious fact check on the DSS report.
DG DSS Stands By Report
This blog understand that the Mallam Daura, who heads the intelligence service is not backing down on the report against Mr Magu. In fact, sources informed DENISAURUS NEWS that he has added over 10 more charges to the 16 it listed to the Senate against Mr Magu.
Information received by this blog also indicates that the directive given by the President to the Attorney General of Federation, Abubakar Malami to probe Mr Magu does not absolve him of any of the allegation made against him. Staff are calling for the report to be made public.
Plotting For Confirmation
Mr Magu plans to pay Senator Chukwuk so as to get the clearance from the anti-corruption committee.
To further pursue his desperate plot, Mr Magu believes that the other two conditions which is to get the DSS to recant the indicting report and also get clearance from the Presidency, could also be tackled in a dubious manner, a source explained.
As for the DSS indicting report, Mr Magu told friends that his Godfather, Gen. Babagana Monguno being the supervisory security chief, would veto Mallam Duara to give him (Mr Magu) a clean slate.
According to the EFCC staff, Mr Magu believes a Top Government ally who re-forwarded his name to the Senate while PMB was away, “would quickly clear the last condign,” which requires him to get clearance from the Presidency.
If his corrupt scheme comes to plan, Mr Magu would have been cleared by the Presidency, DSS report and Senate Committee on Anti-corruption.
Mr Magu is said to be happy that PMB is not in the country as it means his ally is in charge.
Would DENISAURUS News be correct to say, it initial report on Mr Magu joining a campaign legion to wish PMB death was true?
Gullible Nigerians should be the judge, staff say. “The report of DG DSS is only a tip of the iceberg on Mr Magu of EFCC, as more exposé are soon going to be coming out.”
They want Nigerians to answer if they sincerely believe that “Mr Magu is fit to be chair even after the DSS allegations.”
