Over the past few months, DENISAURUS has been privileged to provide explosive account provided by core staff of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, showing the corruption carried out by their boss, Ibrahim Mustafa Magu in his desperate act to be confirmed as the substantive chairman of the commission.
As a result of that series of article, the editor of this blog who has written the bulk of the exposé has received from a close associate of Mr Magu, another detail of ill doing that links him to the detained Air Commodore.
LINKS WITH DETAINED AIR COMMODORE
In the last six months, several allegations of impunity and blackmail have been levelled against the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Magu. Most of which he has not been able to refute, how much more admit to be culpable.
On May 21, 2016, the Department of State Services, DSS arrested one Air Commodore Umar Muhammed (rtd), who was a member of the Presidential Committee on Arms Deal.
The suspect was arrested at his Maitama residence in Abuja for several allegations, bothering on money laundering, illegal possession of arms, running a blackmailing cartel, possession of unauthorised documents from the EFCC, arms deal panel and the office of the President.
In the course of investigation, the DSS discovered that the Air Chief was fronting for a senior EFCC Official and a National Security Adviser.
The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren denied that any member of the agency was involved in running any cartel with Air Commodore U Muhammed.
Mr Uwujaren also told the media that, though the anti-graft agency boss was the only one from EFCC on that Presidential Committee, but he said, Mr Magu cannot be involved in such an illegal act.
DENISAURUS had reported that the NSA Babagana Monguno and Mr Magu were the only two representative of ONSA and EFCC respectively on the Arms Deal Committee.
However, after a painstaking investigation by the DSS, it was discovered that Mr Magu made the Air Chief a front, while they extort money from those being investigated for Arms Deal.
Although, Mr Magu has come out to deny anything of such existed, and even suggested that the President order an investigation into the matter to know the truth, many didn’t believe that the anti-graft agency boss was not involved, owing to several of his impunity that was subsequently revealed.
CORRUPTION EXPOSED BY CSO
A Civil Society group alleged that Mr Magu of EFCC is deeply involved with the arrested DSS suspect, Air Commodore Muhammed.
The group insisted that Mr Magu had given the contract for the renovation of a residence, he recently moved to at Maitama, Abuja to the tune of N43million to the Air Chief.
A source within EFCC say, Mr Magu of EFCC has abandoned the house for rats and cockroaches, for fear the DSS may use this as exhibit linking him to the Air Commodore. And on that premise, advised that the president should relief Mr Magu of his appointment.
In another twist of event, also, a CSO similarly requested that President Muhammadu Buhari should order the DSS, to release their comprehensive report in Mr Magu of EFCC. This they say was due to the so many allegations relating the Air Chief Muhammed and Mr Magu of EFCC.
DSS SUSPECT REPORTED AFFAIR WITH PROMINENT WOMAN
Insiders say that the most provoking of all these atrocities by Mr Magu of EFCC and the DSS suspect, Air Commodore Umar Mohammed, is the involvement of the latter in an affair with a very prominent woman in Nigeria.
According to a very reliable source, the relationship of the Air Chief with the lady will pave an easy access to PMB.
Mr Mohammed’s affair was with this woman is also to enable “Mr Magu of EFCC get PMB to influence his confirmation” and was seen as “a way to conceal the blackmailing cartel which the Air Chief was fronting for Mr Magu of EFCC.”
Information gathered also revealed that the said prominent woman must have benefited from some of the bribes received by the Air Chief on behalf of the person he was fronting for.
They believe if the case was to get to the attention of PMB, “The President will have no say, since the woman would have been deeply involved too.”
EFCC staffers have constantly called on the President to investigate the level of corruption perpetuated by their boss.
One staff who spoke to the editor of this blog at length explained that operatives “cannot but agree that whatever crime that has been found to be committed by the Air Chief, Mr Magu of is the bigger accomplice.”
The source expressed “that this is evident, as for sure, Mr Magu of EFCC was aware that the Air Commodore should not keep an unlicensed fire arm, being a closed associate,
According to this insider who wished to on the condition of anonymity because of fear of retribution, Mr Magu “should know that it was contrary to Money Laundering Act 2011, for the Air Chief not to keep money in excess of $1.5million at home and to crown it up all, Mr Magu of EFCC initiated the illicit idea for the Air Chief to have an affair with the prominent woman, due to his selfish reasons.
“Unfortunately for the duo, they failed to realise that PMB is not that kind of person, who such a woman will dictates to him on how to run a complex country like Nigeria.
“Of course, if otherwise, had it been PMB was not a veteran; the ‘ship Nigeria’ may have capsized, coupled with the numerous challenges inherited by the administration.”
It was noted, in the email received by DENISAURUS that “most people believe, due to this intimacy between the Air Chief and the prominent woman, Mr Magu of EFCC was proving certain that he must get confirmed by NASS.”
This blog has exposed many desperate attempt made by Mr Magu to secure his confirmation.
It includes putting pressure on the Senate President and other member of NASS, bullying and victimising core staff, blackmailing Emirs and trying to tarnish the image of appointees of the President, such as Chief of Staff Abba Kyari, Gen AB Dambazau, DG DSS Lawal M Daura, AGF Abubakar Malami, Mallam Mamman Daura et al.
The staff member who spoke to this blog wants to urge President Buhari to apply the same punishment of the Air Chief to Mr Magu.
In the person’s words, “what is good for the goose is good for the gander.”
