Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari has responded to claims made about his suspension.
Joking with State House reporters, Alhaji Kyari, a seasoned administrator and former Editor, told them to “go and tweet that I am here.”
A US online media claimed in August of this year, that Alhaji Kyari had received a bribe of N500m from MTN Group Ltd to help reduce a fine handed to the South Africa based giant telecommunication company by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on the FCT, Dino Melaye also accused Dr Okechukwu Enelamah, of colluding with MTN to illegally move $13.92 billion out of the country between 2006 – 2016. The allegation was denied by Dr Enelamah, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment.
MTN, Africa’s biggest mobile-phone company was given a fine of 1.04 trillion naira for failing to meet deadline given to disconnect 5.1 million unregistered subscribers.
The company hired former US Attorney General Eric Holder and in June, the fine was reduced to 330 billion naira following recommendations from a committee – which did not include Alhaji Kyari.
Pascal Dozie, chairman of MTN released a statement to deny the tech giants had given any money to Alhaji Kyari.
The CoS, who does not like media wars, wrote to the director of the Department of State Security Services, SSS and the Inspector General of Police asking for the agencies to investigate the allegation made against him.
