Adebayo Adelabu is to challenge the result of the 2019 Governorship elections read out by the Independent National Electoral Commission, a close friend has revealed to DENISAURUS News.
Mr Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor, Operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was announced as the second runner up in the Oyo Governorship elections.
While Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party scored 515,621, Mr Adelabu of the All Progressives Congress received 357,982 votes from the 33 Local Government Areas, LGAs of the state.
The result was said to have come as a shock to the banker, who was made to believe he had an edge. The APC candidate who at first planned not to do anything is now considering whether to take a challenge of the results at the court.
A source close to the campaign explained that the 47-year-old runner up, was so misled, he was given assurances that he had already won.
Speaking under the condition of anonymity, the person said “even a close aide I knew that was working on the campaign in Oyo, was starting to act like they had already won.”
