With less than 75 days before the electorates go to out to vote, the leading opposition candidate in Nigeria Abubakar Atiku held a significant rally in a strong hold of President Muhammadu Buhari today.
Alhaji Atiku, 72, the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who is promising to make “Nigeria work again” led a few other members of the party to Sokoto state, which is situated in the North West of the country.
Under President Buhari, millions of people have become unemployed and Nigeria has become the world capital of poverty.
President Buhari, 75, the first to defeat an incumbent at the polls in Nigeria has a large following in the North but judging by the mammoth crowd in Sokoto today, Alhaji Atiku might be able to decimate the President’s core vote share next year.

Speaking to the crowd, Alhaji Atiku vowed to dialogue with everyone to ensure Nigeria remains united.
He said: “Our target is to ensure Nigeria of our founding fathers, a country for all, a united and secure Nigeria that will attract more investors to participate in its economic growth.”
The PDP Presidential candidate who served as a Vice President from 1999-2007 has also vowed to create JOBS and turn around the fortunes of the country if elected in February.
In a tweeter post he said: “As we begin our regional campaigns today, I want to remind all Nigerians of my commitment to you and the future of our nation to create JOBS: Jobs, Opportunity, Being united and Security.”

The campaign moderated by Dino Melate, the senator representing Kogi West, was packed with a large crowd.
