#NIGERIADECIDES: Donald Duke Announces 2019 Presidential Campaign

Donald Duke has announced plans to run in the 2019 presidential campaign while speaking at the annual Law dinner of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State.

“I am putting myself forward for the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said, adding that “I’m not going to sit back any longer and postulate.”

According to Mr Duke’s campaign, “Everyone Matters.”

“I want each one of those young people there to be part of it,” he said: “That’s why I urge them to go and get their voter’s card and be part of this society.

“Don’t be onlookers any longer, this is not a football match where you sit in the audience and cheer and grumble. Get unto the field and take part.”

Shortly afterwards, the former Governor of Cross River, Nigeria took to twitter to inform his over 300 thousand followers of the news.

“You may have heard I’m running for President of Nigeria 2019,” he said: “Do I have your support?  #donaldduke2019.”

Mr Duke, who invested in transforming his state from 1997 to 2007, seem to be a very popular candidate compared to President Muhammadu Buhari, 75, who intends to seek re-elections.

Some Nigerians took to twitter and other platforms to throw their support behind the former Governor, following the news of his campaign plans.

“Donald Duke just declared to run for the office of the President,” @tawah89 wrote, adding that “I expect all the what other options do we have other than Buhari to die faster than United’s schmidfield hype.”

Another person said he could give fellow Nigerian citizens “5 trillion reasons” Nigerians should vote for Mr Duke.

He wrote: “vote for credibility, wisdom, total transformation, peace, sound security and a leader. Get your PVCs!! We deserve an intelligent president after so many years!”

The 56-year-old, was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, however he has not decided which political party he’d represent at the February 16, 2019 election.
