On June 9, 2015, Bukola Saraki emerged as the President of the 8th Senate after a vote by his peers.
Senator Saraki, 55, a former Governor of Kwara State was not the favourite of some of the party leaders, especially a chieftain from Lagos.
For me, I had hoped that a female lawmaker from Adamawa, Binta Garba would be given the chance to show that a woman too can lead.
But, in Senator Saraki, we have seen a senate respond to the issues that concerns the ordinary Nigerian. Recently, he negotiated the end of the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU strike.
Before then the Senate was the first to begin to discuss the issue of herdsmen and seeking ways to end the brutal killings that has spread across the country.
By contrast, the executive arm of government had threatened to dismiss all the members involved in the industrial action.
President Muhammadu Buhari has also been criticised for failing to address the issue of herdsmen.
So, having proved himself as an effective leader – one in whose leadership the most bills to change the lives of Nigerians have been passed, I have come to see the benefit of having Senator Saraki as the most senior representative at the Senate.
Unfortunately, those who plotted and failed in their bid to impose a leader in the upper and lower chamber, remain bitter and have worked vigorously to undermine the legislative arm of government.
As the long grudge festered, the desperation to nail Senator Saraki began to build momentum. So, not long after his election as Senate President, a case of false assets declaration sprang up against him. The case was thrown out and a no-case submission was upheld by the judge.
Not satisfied with Justice Danladi Umar’s ruling, a lawyer from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, who made the initial case against Senator Saraki filed an “incompetent” application before the Apex Court.
A new trick to pull down the two time Senator for Kwara Central is this allegation of involvement in the Offa Bank Robbery.
Till date, the EFCC prosecution team has not been able to prove its allegations against the former Governor of Kwara.
Nonetheless, the damage might have been done already. This case against Nigeria’s number three man has seen him attend court all through his tenure.
It is worrying that for Senator Saraki’s tenure, some have done much to intimidate him just because they hold a grudge.
It is even worse to know that those involved don’t care that they are destroying our democracy which took 19 strong years to build.
We have a EFCC boss, Ibrahim Mustafa Magu who wears a re-election lapel of President Muhammadu Buhari,PMB.
A @CustomsNG boss who heads the Buhari Campaign Organisation and an Inspector General of Police, IGP of Police who has become a law unto himself.
This three Ibrahim’s are very close to President Buhari. They all hate Senator Saraki.
When they say “the enemy of my enemy is my friend…” this is true of this three Ibrahim’s.
Look at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT case, where Mr Magu exonerated Justice Umar, the trial judge only to bring same charges because he didn’t deliver ruling against Senator Saraki. Mr Magu is working with his chief supporter, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

The Vice President, a prof, pastor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN who set up a parallel office at the Ministry of Justice, MoJ says Mr Magu doesn’t need Senate confirmation.
Informed sources say the Attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami never ever cleared Mr Magu, but his chief supporter did. This was a case of “I’ll scratch your back, you scratch mine.
So, the Senate President has those desperate to bring him down! Those who want to do away with him have found a replacement in an accountant governor and former Senator somewhere in the South West, a source in the Government disclosed to this paper.
DENISAURUS News understand that if this Offa thing is successful, the plotters would have successfully rid themselves of a big 2019 threat.
