A 37-year-old man accused of leading a robbery of a bank in Offa, Kwara State, has confirmed carrying out the attack but said it was the “devil that pushed us.”

The tape of the confession was published online hours after the Nigerian Police Force asked the Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Governor of Kwara, Abdulfatah Ahmed to report to Force Intelligence Response Team office at Guzape, Abuja for questioning over the robbery.

Senator Saraki, who was the Governor of Kwara between 2003 to 2011 and his successor, Governor Abdufatah have denied any involvement in the robbery which left more than 33 people dead on April 5, 2018.

In fact, the Senate President was one of the first to condemn the act and promised swift action and justice for the victims.

When asked if the Governor or Saraki were aware of the robbery? Or if they sent him for the operation, the suspect, Ayodele Akinnibosun aka AY said: “No! They did not send us for the robbery.”

In a statement, Senator Saraki said the plot to rope him into the robbery was a plan by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to “embarrass” and “frame” him.

Mr Idris, who fumbled recently while a message in Kano, has refused to honour an invitation by the leaders of the National Assembly to “come and offer explanations on the rampant killings and violence across the country.”

“Let it be known that there is no way I could have been associated with armed robbery against my people,” Senator Saraki’s statement states.

“When the Offa robbery incident happened, I was the first top public official to pay a visit to the place and right there in the palace of the traditional ruler, I put a call through to this same Mr. Ibrahim Idris, the IGP, requesting him to make certain specific security arrangements as demanded by the people.

Senator Saraki said: “Members of the public will remember that on May 16, 2018, I alerted the Senate about the information passed on to me by my State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatai Ahmed, over a plot by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to frame me up by getting some suspected cultists arrested in Ilorin to implicate me. It is believed that the timely leakage of the plot in that case aborted the use of the suspected cultists to implicate me. Now, it is the Offa bank robbery suspects that are about to be used.

“This plot is concocted to embarrass me and, in the mind of the IGP, it is his own response after his refusal to honour the invitation by the National Assembly, headed (by) me, for him to come and offer explanations on the rampant killings and violence across the country.

“Like the earlier one, this frame-up will also fail as I hereby state categorically that I have no link with any band of criminals.

“As a person who has utmost respect for the rule of law and all constitutional institutions, when the invitation from the Police is formally extended to me, I will be ready to honour it without any delay.

“It is however sad that this abuse of the criminal investigation process aimed at intimidating and over-overawing the legislature, thereby obstructing it from doing its work, is a big threat to our democracy.”

In an editorial, Adenike Lucas, the publisher of DENISAURUS News said it was “worrying that for his (@bukolasaraki’s) tenure, some have done much to intimidate him just because they hold a grudge.

“It is even worse to know that those involved don’t care that they are destroying our democracy which took 19 strong years to build.

“We have a EFCC boss, Ibrahim Mustafa Magu who wears a re-election lapel of President Muhammadu Buhari,PMB.

“A @CustomsNG boss who heads the Buhari Campaign Organisation and an Inspector General of Police, IGP of Police who has become a law unto himself.

“This three Ibrahim’s are very close to President Buhari. They all hate Senator Saraki.

“When they say ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend…’ this is true of this three Ibrahim’s.

“Look at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT case, where Mr Magu exonerated Justice Danladi Umar, the trial judge only to bring same charges because he didn’t deliver ruling against Senator Saraki.  Mr Magu is working with his chief supporter, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

“The Vice President, a professor, pastor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN who set up a parallel office at the Ministry of Justice, MoJ says Mr Magu doesn’t need Senate confirmation.

“Informed sources say the Attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami never ever cleared Mr Magu, but his chief supporter did. This was a case of ‘I’ll scratch your back, you scratch mine.’

“So, the Senate President has those desperate to bring him down! Those who want to do away with him have found a replacement in an accountant governor and former Senator somewhere in the South West,” a government official hinted to this paper.

DENISAURUS News understand that if this Offa thing is successful, the plotters would have successfully rid themselves of a big 2019 threat.
