As the news of the stolen mace continues to spread, social media users have tried to make sense of why a lawmaker would steal the symbol of authority from the National Assembly.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, a member of the Pro-Buhari group in the Senate made an offensive comment on the floor last week – for which he was duly sanctioned.

DENISAURUS News learnt that the suspended lawmaker was not pleased with the decision of his colleagues.

The 54-year-old then decided to sneak in to the chamber with thugs to steal the mace- an action that has been described as a “coup” and should be seen as “treason.”

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti says it is the first time “since 1999, the National Assembly was invaded by thugs and the Senate Symbol of Authority taken away.

“Only thugs with Presidential backing could have carried out that treasonable act & those involved must be treated like coupists.”

The suspect, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District has since been arrested by the police.

In a series of tweets, Oke Umurhohwo,  lambasted the lawmaker she believes deliberately planned to subvert democracy.

Using the handle, @stalyf the twitter user states that the “events that happened today at the National Assembly points to one fact; Nigeria’s #DemocracyUnderAttack.”

She added: “For those who may not know, the National Assembly Complex is not a place you just casually stroll in as you want and pick up an item as important as the Mace. It is the 2nd Arm of Government with adequate security 24 hours.

“To gain access into the Complex, you will pass through one of the most time-consuming, energy-sapping, rigorous screenings available in Nigeria and a tag assigned to you after you must have provided details of the office you’re going to & a confirmation gotten from same office

“For a group of thugs to have gained access into the Assembly Complex and even passed through another layer of security by the Chamber’s entrance, a high-powered Official must have granted them clearance.”

She said: “Someone far above Senator Omo-Agege and who can give senior police officers directives.”

On Tuesday at 8:18pm, DENISAURUS News used its official twitter handle to report the news of the Finance minister, Kemi Adeosun authorised the sum of $462 million without the approval of the Senate.

As plans to discuss the matter along with other issues of corruption involving the Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo over his role as chairman of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA , was to start, a chaotic plot was launched on the Senate by a coup plotter masquerading as an offended lawmaker.

Senator Omo-Agege, a staunch member of the Parliamentary Support Group, PSG, and his thugs stole the mace – thereby making the Senate a house without authority.

“We all know the Senate just yesterday commenced investigations into a $462m unappropriated expenditure by the Buhari govt to purchase helicopters, @stalyf“states.

She further states that “the CBN Governor and Minister of Defence were alleged to have been summoned to explain why such huge amounts would be taken from the Treasury without proper approvals and paid to an unknown company in the US in the guise of purchasing helicopters.

“This act of attacking a Senate that was in session and carting away it’s symbol of authority looks every inch like what was planned by the people who don’t want to be exposed.

“Senator Omo-Agege wouldn’t be the first Senator to be suspended and he knows invading the National Assembly with thugs won’t make his case any better.

“He must have been contacted to use his grouse with the Senate leadership as a guise to cover the real intent.

“They want to destroy the National Assembly to cover their evil. They want to plunge us into a full blown dictatorship.

“Please don’t take my words for it but watch how this matter will be handled by the APC government.

“Watch to see if the Senator and his thugs will be punished. If you’re in Nigeria, prepare for the dramas coming up in the days and weeks ahead as the elections approach.

“It will be interesting and I pray none of us becomes a victim of the games ahead.

“But we must stand up as patriotic democrats because Nigeria’s #DemocracyUnderAttack.”
