Those that know the National Security Adviser, NSA Babagana Monguno, and his “godson” Ibrahim Mustafa Magu, have said that the corruption and impunity of both men is akin to that of water and fish.

Mr Magu, whose nomination as the fourth chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC was rejected twice by lawmakers, lives and breathes in corruption in the same way a fish can only survive in water.

The perennial offender also described as a vindictive man, is willing to do anything to remain in office. His quest for power is similar to his “godfather.” Both men are soaked in various scandals and have had to use illegal means to cover up dastardly acts for one another.

DENISAURUS News first reported in 2016, how Mr Magu had ensured that he covered up all investigations at the EFCC, which indicted NSA Monguno in Arms Deal, Diversion of Nigeria Troop Allowance and using of Military Attachés for money laundering when he held sway as boss at the Defence Military Intelligence, DMI.

Likewise, the NSA chief has also used his might to ensure his corrupt “godson,” Mr Magu is well protected from any investigation.

When the Department of State Security Services, DSS wrote an indicting report to the Senate about Mr Magu, General Monguno doctored a second one.

The DSS had in its indicting report on EFCC’s Magu sent to NASS Senate in October 2016, narrated how the anti-graft boss is a “perennial offender” who cannot be trusted with “money and power,” and would be a “liability on anti-corruption fight of this present administration” if confirmed by the senior lawmakers.

Unfortunately, the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, a Pastor, Professor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, revealed in confidence to DENISAURUS News sources that the Mr Magu is “unfit and corrupt,” but has continued to support the illegal “stay-put” of anti-graft boss in office, for self-serving reasons not national patriotism.

Mr Magu, blames the DSS for his rejection at the Senate. The corrupt officer said to be bitter over the whole incident has deployed various means to retaliate.

The EFCC boss, who has paid several marabouts on his confirmation bid, uses brawn instead of brains in investigation, which is why many high profile cases has failed during his leadership.

The Director General of DSS, Lawal M Daura made this revelation at the NASS Senate ad-hoc Committee, which investigated a security breach among the DSS, National Intelligence Agency, NIA and the EFCC.

The DSS chief, in whose authority the authentic report that nailed Mr Magu was written,  revealed how NSA Monguno and EFCC’s Magu had both used their position to destroy Nigeria’s security architecture due to spite.

According to Daura, the vindictiveness of “godfather” and “godson” was the cause of a breakdown in security in the country.

He said both men had planned to get back at the Secret Service, after the arrest of their accomplice and ally, Air Commodore Umar Mohammad rtd, who was a member of the Presidential Committee investigating Arms Deal between 2014 to 2015.

The DSS arrested Mr Mohammed for several corrupt activities, while being a member of the “Arms Deal” committee, DENISAURUS News reported in 2016.

The retired Air Commodore who revealed how NSA Monguno, Mr Magu and himself used privileged EFCC and Presidency’s confidential documents at their disposal to extort money from suspect, left no stone unturned while in the custody of the Secret Police, DENISAURUS News learned.

Members of the Committee set up August 2015 through a directives from President Muhammadu Buhari to the NSA Gen. Monguno, includes:

Air Vice Marshal J.O.N. Ode (rtd) – President; Rear Admiral J.A. Aikhomu (rtd) – Member; Rear Admiral E. Ogbor (rtd) – Member; Brigadier General L. Adekagun (rtd.) – Member; Brigadier General M. Aminu-Kano (rtd) – Member; and Brigadier General N. Rimtip (rtd).

Others are Commodore T.D. Ikoli – Member; Air Commander U. Mohammed (rtd) – Member; Air Commander I. Shafi’i – Member; Colonel A.A. Ariyibi – Member; Group Captain C.A. Oriaku (rtd) – Member; Ibrahim Magu (EFCC) – Member; and Brigadier General Y.I. Shalangwa – Secretary.

Further, Daura revealed to the NASS Senate that shortly after the commencement of the investigation activities, operatives of the DSS serving on the panel were removed by NSA Monguno, leaving members from the Military, NIA and EFCC to continue.

He said thereafter, the DSS, acting on intelligence, discovered that some Ad-Hoc members were brought in by NSA Monguno to serve on the committee.

Daura said in the document obtained by an Online Media (not DENISAURUS News): “These Ad-Hoc members were later found to be involved in some shady deals, which bordered on corrupt practices.

“The service subsequently arrested Umar, the arrowhead of the members involved in extorting money from suspects under investigation in order to give them soft landing.

“At the end of the investigation, he (Umar) was arraigned in Court and is presently being prosecuted at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

“Against this backdrop, NSA Monguno and EFCC’s Magu who were clearly not happy with the arrest and prosecution of Mohammed, decided to embark on a vendetta to investigate the Service on some trumped-up charges, including corrupt practices.

“The starting point of this was the invitation sent to Ita Ekpenyong and Kunle Kadir, former Director of DSS and Head of Account of the DSS, respectively.

“The investigation was actually a voyage of discovery to fish out incriminating evidence against the service with a view to depict it and the Management as being corrupt.”
