New facts have emerged on the indicting report which the National Assembly NASS Senate relied on to reject the confirmation of the Acting Chair of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Ibrahim Mustafa Magu.
Lawal Duara, the Director General of State Security Service, SSS had compiled a report which showed that Mr Magu was unfit to head the anti-graft agency.
It is worthy to note that in an effort to salvage the exposé that led to the non confirmation of Mr Magu, the Premium Times, PT, whose editor has links with Mr Magu, had come out to say “two DSS Reports was sent to the NASS Senate”.
According to PT, the initial report sent to NASS Senate, though had the same indictment against Mr Magu, but it was recommended that the anti-graft agency’s boss should be favourably considered.
However, PT further alleged that, it was the later date report of the DSS, that suggested Mr Magu be rejected by NASS Senate, due to the dangers he posses to the anti-graft war of this administration.
DENISAURUS NEWS had faulted this dubious fact check on the DSS report.
The editor of this blog, Adenike Lucas who has had the privilege of speaking to various operational staff at the anti-graft agency has published the corrupt act of Mr Magu, for the past six to seven months.
The DSS report confirmed that the allegation this blog made against the Borno born Deputy Commissioner of Police were right.
DENISAURUS NEWS had over six to seven months reported that Mr Magu was discussing with others how to embarrass this government of President Muhammadu Buhari, PMB, using his media ally Sahara Reporters, in the event the President doesn’t influence or push the NASS Senate for his confirmation.
Further, we believe that Nigerians can now attest by themselves, that the desperation if Mr Magu of EFCC to want to be the substantive EFCC boss, know no bounds.
As information at our disposal points to the fact that, Mr Magu had engaged the services of most NGOs, CSOs, senior lawyers, international foreign agencies etc, to begin a total media war on PMB; NASS; DSS; and other top government appointees.
This with the aim that when the pressure become heightened, PMB will be forced to ignore the professional “DSS Indicting Report”, and rather insist Mr Magu of EFCC be confirmed.
Insiders say that the NASS Senate may end up not having confidence in President Buhari and PMB’s fight against corruption would not be taken serious because it will be seen that he is not really purging the entire system, only a few sections.
They “therefore advised the President not to allow any of these blackmailing antics of Mr Magu.”
DENISAURUS NEWS can authoritatively report that the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki had written the DSS, to furnish the NASS Senate on the security-check made on Mr Magu.
In reply, the DSS forwarded a comprehensive 16 paged report, which detailed reasons why Mr Magu of EFCC should not be confirmed as the substantive EFCC Chair.
However, we understand that, as at the time President Buhari sacked the immediate past EFCC Chair, Ibrahim Lamorde, he was instructed to handover to Mr Magu. This made the screening by the DSS, not to have been sought then.
Thus, as events continue to unfold, the DSS later discovered that the Air Commodore Umar Mohammed, which became a suspect at DSS, was into a dodgy deals with Mr Magu.
Consequently, the need to carry out a more advance security check on the acting EFCC boss, became expedient.
DENISAURUS NEWS do not want to believe that, as professional as the DSS could be, they would write two different reports, to the same government body i.e. NASS Senate.
Our take is that, it is possible that the DSS had sent their initial report to their supposed supervisory head, NSA Monguno, who due to the fact that he is the Godfather of Mr Magu of EFCC had decided to alter what should be sent to the NASS Senate.
Meanwhile, with dexterity of the Senate President Saraki, he realized the possibility of how the DSS could say Mr Magu is not security fit, yet asked them to consider the nominee as substantive EFCC boss.
Therefore, the Senate President sought from the DSS, a certified report on Mr Magu of EFCC, which turned out to be the contrary from the initial report sent to the ONSA. This is the true picture of what transpired, and not the supposed “FACTS CHECK” by Premium Times, as reported previously.
