EXTRA: EFCC Boss Runs to IGP for Help on How To conceal ‘Dubious’ Promotion

👤 EXCLUSIVE: Adenike Lucas and Danjuma Aliyu, DENISAURUS News

The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Mustafa Magu, has approached the Inspector General to help him conceal his recent promotion from the public.

Mr Magu, who was indicted by the Department of State Security Services, DSS on corruption charges, was suspiciously moved to the rank of Commissioner of Police, a level 16 post last week.

DENISAURUS News exclusively reported the promotion in a report published on Sunday 25 March.

This newspaper had previously published exclusively Nigeria’s suspension from the Egmont Financial Intelligence Unit.

Other exposes on the Borno born has also been corroborated by the Secret police.

Our reporters have learned that the “corrupt” officer was shocked the news of his promotion had leaked to the media. He arranged a meeting to see Ibrahim Idris, the IGP to seek help on how details of the promotion can be withheld from the public.

However, Mr Idris informed Mr Magu that the publication of promotion is published by the Police Service Commission.

Sources believe Mr Magu is not due for a rise. The news of this promotion could bring more attention to the rejected EFCC boss, whose tenure has been riddled with so many scandal.

The 55-year-old who enjoys the support of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, is no stranger to controversies and the new promotion is already raising suspicions among staff members at the Commission.

Professor Osinbajo, a firm supporter of Mr Magu claimed Mr Magu, was the most senior officer, a claim that is not true as there are three internationally respected directors who are at an equivalent rank of an Assistant Inspector General, AIG (Level 17) – a more senior role than Mr Magu’s newly promoted rank of Commissioner.

Concerned staff at the EFCC believe “this new promotion might be a way of ensuring that the assertion by Vice President is corroborated by a rapid promotion for Mr Magu.”

They argued that Nigeria’s number two man deliberately sold a lie to Nigerians about how Mr Magu is the most senior official, adding that indeed, the most senior staff is one Ayo Peter Olowonihi, a level 17.
