Russia has vetoed a UN resolution that demanded an investigation into the reported use of chemical weapons in Syria.
The veto was made after the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson spoke of the “low level of trust” between the United State and Russia.
The British Foreign Minister, Boris Johnson, said he was dismayed by today’s vetoing. Mr Johnson called for fellow Ministers from the powerful G7 nations to sanction Russia and Syria. This call was rejected, yesterday.
The German and Italian foreign ministers rejected the idea of imposing tougher sanctions on Russia until an investigation has been carried out into who was to blame for last week’s nerve gas attack in Syria’s Idlib province.
