A Federal High Court in Lagos has agreed to hear a suite challenging Ibrahim Mustafa Magu’s continued stay in office as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
On Thursday, 15 December, 2016, the Senate rejected the nomination of Mr Magu as substantive chair of the anti-corruption agency, based on an intelligence report it received from the Department of State Security, DSS.
Despite his rejection, Mr Magu has continued to parade himself as the boss of the anti-corruption agency.
Hence, a lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, had urged the Court to forthwith, restrain Mr Magu, from doing so.
The lawyer argued in a suit filed on Monday, 16 January, 2017, that having been rejected by the Senate, it had become illegal for Mr Magu to remain at the helms of the EFCC.
Mr Adegboruwa explained that by remaining in office, Mr Magu was violating section 2 (3) of the EFCC Act which made the condition of his position subject to his confirmation by the Senate.
The trial judge, Mojisola Olatoregun, has fixed the hearing for February 13.
Staff of the anti-corruption agency have constantly complained about how their boss was driving the agency down through his corrupt activities.
To validate some of its allegation against Mr Magu, DENISAURUS NEWS leaked an audio conversation of Mr Magu cutting a dodgy deal with Ibanga Akpabio, the younger brother of former Governor Akwa Ibom State.
The allegations made against Mr Magu by members of his staff were later confirmed in the intelligence report submitted to the Senate by the Director General of the DSS, Lawal Daura on October 3, 2016.
The DSS report was in response to a request from the Senate which asked for Mr Magu’s security check.
This blog understands that in an attempt to hoodwink the Nigerian public and in a bid to force President Muhammadu Buhari into clearing Mr Magu – who had failed an integrity test set by the state security, a second report was written by Major General, Babagana Monguno (rtd) and sent to the Senate.
An online media, whose editor in chief has links with Mr Magu, also did a hatchet job on the DSS report with the aim of gathering public sympathy for Mr Magu, but DENISAURUS NEWS has provided a correct version of event.
The Editor of DENISAURUS NEWS, Adenike Lucas has been very privileged to have gained the trust of so many operational operatives at the EFCC and as such as done various reports which exposed the level of corruption perpetuated by Mr Magu.
Over the past six to seven months, this blog has published several articles which exposed the corrupt and desperate acts of the “rejected” acting boss of the anti-graft agency.

In November, 2016, a report written exclusively for this blog by a staff writer from the Pebbles News explained how Mr Magu was stalling the corruption fight, along with the support of a popular chieftain from the ruling party.
Last year, a Top Senior Politician requested the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari to forward Mr Magu’s name to the Senate.
Now again, the president is away on vacation, news are going around about, that Mr Magu’s name has been re-presented to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki for consideration, despite the intelligence report against him.
A government official who spoke to DENISAURUS NEWS exclusively said that the Senate had not received a letter from the President to signify that it wish to re-nominate Mr Magu.
“Even by Monday morning, the Senate had not received any letter from the President to notify him of such report,” the insider noted.
The Special Assistant to President Buhari on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Mr Ita Enang, also denied that the government had made a fresh presentation to the Senate.
Mr Enang told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, that he was not aware of such letter as of this night.
EFCC sources say Mr Magu who was indicted and rejected by NASS due to the damning DSS report has other corrupt tendencies against him which have been exposed by other colleagues to this blog.
According to the whistle blowing employee of the anti-corruption agency, the Attorney General of Federation and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, “submitted his report since but up till now nobody knows the import of that report but, it certainly is not right that the speculations are going when the public has not had the chance to read the report.
In addition, the staff called for Mr Malami, SAN, to release to the public its investigative report against Mr Magu.
Up to a 100 staff have been in touch with this blog to complain about Mr Magu’s desperation to cling on to the top job.
Mr Magu is said to have gone from blackmailing prominent Emirs from the North to seeking the aid of marabouts over the issue of his confirmation.
The Borno born hoped that by doing so, his name will be represented to the parliament.
The Deputy Police Commissioner failed to respond to a query from Mr Malami, SAN, (the EFCC is an agency under the supervision of the AGF), over the evidence of corruption put before him. Instead he is said to have made an attempt to absolve himself of any blame in front of W. Stuart Symington, the US ambassador to Nigeria.
A source told DENISAURUS NEWS: “Mr Magu’s denial to the US envoy is a complete and total ruse.”
In his view, “Mr Magu’s case is like catching a thief with the loot in their hand yet they are still denying that they have stolen.”
The source who said that the DSS report is concrete evidence against Mr Magu, called on the embassy not to entertain Mr Magu who allegedly came to them to deny accusation from the report.
“Why would anyone take an intelligence report written by a security outfit like the DSS lightly? This is what the Mr Symington has done.
“Mr Magu is telling lots of lies and hoping that Nigerians (most of whom I believe are easily fooled) will believe. He is so desperate to head the operation he thinks he can hide all the evidence against him by hoodwinking the nation to his side.
EFCC insiders have not backtracked on the allegation they made against their boss.
They accused Mr Magu of plotting and scheming with the pioneer EFCC chairman, a chieftain of the ruling party, a past Vice Presidential candidate, the National Security Adviser, a former Senate majority leader, a current Senior Top Politician and his Chief of Staff, so as to remain in office.
