Benjamin Mendy, 29, a former Manchester City left back, who was recently cleared of a rape charge has signed for Ligue 1 club Lorient.

The defender, battled the charges made against him by two women, at the Chester Crown Court, where he was acquitted, last week.

The footballer, who was part of the French team that won the 2018 world cup, and was described as “one of the world’s best ull-back,” cleared of six counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

He had to sell many of his properties at cheap rates to fund his defence.

Mendy, was seen in tears outside the court on the day he was acquitted. When asked by journalist for a statement, he only said “Alhamdulillahi.”

Lorient announced Mendy’s signing, saying: “Welcome Benjamin. Benjamin Mendy, world champion 2018, quadruple winner of the Premier League under the colours of Manchester City and French champion of Ligue 1 with Monaco, comes to reinforce the Lorient workforce for this new season.”
