The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have urged the 9th Senate not to confirm President Muhammadu Buhari’s social media, Lauretta Onochie, as a national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Moments after the Senate read the request from the President for Ms. Onochie’s appointment, the PDP released a statement calling for her to be rejected because “a highly provocative assault on the nation’s constitution and democratic process.”
The statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Olagbondiyan, noted that by sending the name of person who is into partisan politics, the President has “failed to fulfil his promise of leaving a legacy of credible elections, having failed in all ramifications of governance.”
DENISAURUS News understands that Ms Onochie, who describes herself as a Personal Assistant to the President, is keen to be given an official appointment.
However, sources noted that as a member of the ruling APC, that has constantly attacked members of the opposition, “it is hard to find anything for her.”
Ms Onochie, who lobbied desperately for the INEC Commissioner role, made some libellous statement against a former Presidential candidate of the PDP, and has been sued for it.
