The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Monday, agreed to hear a case brought by the Governor of Bayelsa, which is challenging is sack from office.

Governor Douye Diri, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was sworn in on February 14, 2020, after the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was sacked by the Supreme Court because his deputy did not have the right qualification for the post.
The PDP candidate was later sacked from office by the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in August of the same year.

The Independence National Electoral Commission, INEC, was asked to conduct a fresh election in the state within 90 days.
On September 23, the appellate court will hear Governor Diri’s case challenging his removal from office.
