President Muhammadu Buhari’s latest public gaffe happened in Delta state today, where he was to hand over the flag of the All Progressives Congress to Great Ogboru, the gubernatorial candidate in the state.
But, President Buhari, 76, who is campaigning for a second term in office addressed Mr Ogboru as the “Presidential candidate.”
The 76-year-old President was immediately corrected, however, he could not seem to grasp what he was been told and went on to make another blunder, this time calling Mr Ogboru, the senatorial candidate.
Noticing the struggle President Buhari, who spent many days in the UK on medical holiday in 2017, was having to properly recognise Mr Ogboru as the Governorship candidate in the election race, a party member tried again to help him, but, unfortunately, the Nigerian Commander-in-Chief still did not get it right, he instead went on to call Mr Ogboru, the “Governortorial” candidate of the APC.
The video of the incident, which is currently circulating on various social media platform, has become a trending topic.
Meanwhile, DENISAURUS News understands that the Independent National Electoral Commission has released the names of those eligible to stand as candidate in the Presidential and Senatorial election.
The election body, which also released names of those vying for House of Representatives, did not list any Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party.
The SDP had initially picked Donald Duke, a former Governor of Cross Rivers as its Presidential candidate, however this was challenged at the Court by Jerry Gana.
In December, The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja favoured the application of Mr Gana, a former Nigerian Minister of Information.
At the time, Mr Duke promised to challenge that decision.
Taking to twitter at the time, Mr Duke a former leading member of the Peoples Democratic Party, who this paper understand was approached to be the running mate to Abubakar Atiku, said: “Our legal team shall appeal the ruling and I am confident that we will be victorious. I am undeterred in my aspiration and want to encourage all those who support my quest not to give up hope. This is a battle and we will win the war.”
