Emeka Ihedioha, a former deputy speaker of the house of representatives, will be the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship candidate in Imo state, the party has said.
He received 1,723 votes, while Samuel Anyanwu, the senator representing Imo East senatorial zone, took 1,282 votes.
Honourable Ihedioha who began his appointment as Press Officer to the then President of the Senate of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu in 1992, has promised to rebuild Imo.
He called on other PDP contestant “who contested with me to join me in this new journey towards the Liberation of our dear state,” adding that his candidacy is a “victory for Ndi Imo and the entire @OfficialPDPNig family.”
Emma Nwala, the returning officer, said he was satisfied with the electoral process which took place at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Centre, Owerri on October 1, 2018.
He said: “I am most grateful to all security personnel for their painstaking commitment to the security of lives and materials all through the night and on till this morning.
“Also, I thank all aspirants, delegates and officials for conducting themselves properly.
“With the power vested on me as returning officer, I hereby declare Emeka Ihedioha the winner and flag bearer of the PDP in Imo for the 2019 governorship election.”
