President Buhari Congratulates Kayode Fayemi, APC Candidate For Ekiti Governorship Elections

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Kayode Fayemi on his selection as the Governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress, APC in the upcoming elections in Ekiti. 

Dr Fayemi, a former Governor of Ekiti state beat 32 candidates to secure his party ticket.

A first attempt to select a candidate for the APC was marred by violence. Consequently, it was cancelled and a fresh election was scheduled for Friday.

These plans were later changed and the primaries was eventually held on Saturday 12, May, 2018.

Dr Fayemi, Minister of Solid Mineral scored 941 out of the 2337 votes cast by the delegates during the exercise. His closest opponent Segun Oni received 481 votes only.

The Ekiti Governorship election is scheduled to take place on the 14th of July. Other candidate vying for the top position in the state include Kolapo Eleka of the Peoples Democratic Party.

In a twitter post, President Buhari said: “Congratulations to @kfayemi on winning the APC ticket to contest the July 14, 2018 governorship elections in Ekiti State.”

The President said: “I have no doubt that Dr Fayemi’s track record as a reformist—with a passion for education, health and welfare—will stand him in good stead in the elections.

“I would also like to commend all the participants in the keenly-contested Primary. I would like them to uphold the values and philosophy of the APC by joining hands to support Dr. Fayemi in the forthcoming elections.

“The APC takes internal democracy seriously, and the success of the Ekiti Primary, with more than 30 aspirants, further validates our party’s democratic credentials. Let me assure that we will continue to work hard to lead Nigeria to the next level of its development journey.”
