Doug Jones, a Democrat has defeated Republican Roy Moore in the deeply Conservative state of Alabama. 

Mr Jones replaces Attorney General Jeff Sessions who vacated the seat earlier this year.

His win narrows the Republican majority in the Senate to 51-49.
