A notorious billionaire accused of conspiracy and kidnapping has pleaded guilty to the charge.
Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, 36, who was said to have masterminded kidnapping operations in Anambra, Edo and Lagos, was arraigned alongside Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Okechukwu Nwachukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi and one Victor Chukwumonso Aduba, before a judge of the Ikeja High Court.
The 36-year-old, who has been in police detention for over three month issued a guilty plea on Wednesday.
Mr Amadi and Mr Nwachukwu also pleaded guilty to the offence. However, Mr Ifeanyi Mr Aduba and Mrs Uchechukwu said they were innocent.
After the charges were read to them, the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem, requested for the remand of the defendants.
“Following this arraignment, we will like to apply for the defendants to be remanded in custody and obtain trial dates for the ones that have pleaded not guilty.
“While for those that have pleaded guilty, we will like to lay out our statement of facts following which Your Lordship will adjourn for sentencing,” Mr Kazeem said.
The case was adjourned by Justice Abdulaziz Anka until October 19. The judge ordered that all the male defendants be remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Prison.
He said that Mrs Uchechukwu, the only female defendant, should be kept at the Kirikiri Female Prison.
