President Buhari Chairs FEC Meeting, Receives 2017 FIBA Women Champions At State House

President Muhammadu Buhari has chaired a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

At the meeting which began at 11 am this morning, President Buhari received and rewarded the Nigeria’s women basketball team, D’Tigress for winning the 2017 International Basketball Federation, FIBA Women Afrobasket Tournament in Mali.

Nigeria played 8 games and won all. They beat Senegal by 65 – 48, and has qualified to participate in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 in Spain.

This is the first time D’Tigers will win the trophy since 2002.

“I was pleased to receive our female National Basketball Team, D’Tigress, at the State House today, they have done so much to make us proud, President Buhari said in a statement posted on his official Twitter account.

“The entire nation appreciates and celebrates your victory – the first in 12 years – and qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Spain.”

Nigeria’s President has announced a million naira donation for each of the players and N500, 000 for each of their officials.

Aisha Mohammed, who led the team to victory in the African championship, said she was “overjoyed that the President invited us to come here.

She said the team will bring the country “more victories and by the grace of God we will go to Spain and win.”
