Democratic Candidate Wins South Korea Election

The Liberal human right lawyer Moon Jae-in will replace Park Geun-hye, the President of South Korea who was impeached for corruption.

Two of Moon’s main rivals Conservative Hong Joon Pyo and centrist Ahn Cheol Soo have already conceded although results are not expected to be announced till tomorrow (May 10).

The concession were made as exit poll of about 89,000 voters showed Moon has already received 41.4 percent of the vote .

The 64-year-old has a 18 percentage lead ahead of his nearest challenger, Joon Pyo (23.3 percent).

Moon, a child of refugee said it was a great victory of great people who stayed with me to create a country of justice… where rules and common sense prevail,”

The President-elect who is the chair of the Democratic Party of Korea has vowed to “build a new nation.”
