Ex-Prime Minister Abdullahi “Farmajo” Mohamed has become the new President of Somalia.

Mr Mohammed beat the incumbent President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud following two rounds of voting by 329 lawmakers.

The new President who won with 184 votes said:  “This victory belongs to Somali people, and this is the beginning of the era of the unity, the democracy of Somalia and the beginning of the fight against corruption.”
