Today is the 31st of December. This day gives us the perfect opportunity to reflect on the events that have taken place in Nigeria, over the past 12 months.

I know I speak for most of the APC UK members, who attended the end of year dinner that took place last week, that this has been an eventful 2016.

No doubt, there have been several challenges but under the All Progressives Congress, we have achieved great successes that have been celebrated all across the world.

One of such success is the recapture of Camp Zairo, Sambisa from Boko Haram, a militant group that had reigned terror and seized control of large areas within the north east, before the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Following his election in 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari promised to win the war against this terrorist group.

His immediate relocation of the army base from Abuja to Maiduguri, where Sambisa is situated was a clear sign of his seriousness to achieve this promise.

The recapturing of Sambisa and dislodgment of Boko Haram from their stronghold is down to the hard work of our Commander in Chief, President Buhari, Army Chiefs and our gallant service men and women.

I join Mr Ade Omole, in commending President Buhari who through Operation Lafiya Dole, has achieved the promise of protecting the lives and properties of the people of Nigeria and securing the territory of the nation.

I, commend the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Burutai, and all the service men and women who took part in this operation. I salute them for their bravery and thank them for the peace we now enjoy, especially in the north east.

Once again, I speak on behalf of UK party members that we will never forget our service men who were killed in action. To us you will remain heroes forever.

I would also like to credit our internal security, led by Lawal Musa Duara whose diligent work in dislodging these deadly terrorists in Nigeria, has been commended by the US President, Barack Obama.

I pray that we continue to build on the successes achieved.

On behalf of the All Progressives Congress, I would like to thank you all for the support you have given our great party this year and I wish you a greater 2017.

God bless Nigeria,

Adenike Lucas
