Rotimi Akeredolu has vowed to deliver a second term for President Muhammadu Buhari.
Governor Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress, APC wants President Buhari to retain his current position, despite calls from prominent Nigerians for him to step down at the next election.
Last month, DENISAURUS News published a scatting letter written by the former head of state Olusegun Obasanjo to the current president, which warned him not to seek re-election in 2019.
In the letter, Dr Olusegun said: Wherever I go, I hear Nigerians complaining, murmuring in anguish and anger, but our anger should not be like the anger of the cripple.
“Let nobody deceive us, economy feeds on politics and because our politics is depressing, our economy is even more depressing today. If things were good, President Buhari would not need to come in. He was voted to fix things that were bad and not engage in the blame game.”
However, at a rally in Akure the capital of Ondo, to mark the first anniversary of his administration in the state, Governor Akeredolu said: “Here in Ondo State, we are supporting Buhari for a second term, and nothing can change that. We are with Buhari and Oyegun. I have to commend members of the state House of Assembly for tolerating me.
“I am one of the governors that will give everything it takes for him (Buhari) to secure a second term in 2019. I am open and frontal about my support for his second term.”
Governor Akeredolu announced his support for the state chairman, Ade Adetimehin.
“I also thank Ade Adetimehin, who is the only chairman of the APC in Ondo State. Any other one is a counterfeit. Anybody who wants to fight should fight. This is not a hidden support; we are declaring it openly.”
At a media chat titled, “An Evening with the Governor,” Mr Akeredolu, also spoke about the party’s national chairman, John Oyegun, who he argues has done well.
The Governor, a former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association noted that he has made peace with Olusola Oke, hence there is no reason for a reconciliation panel to be set up in the state.
“All is well with APC in Ondo State. There is stability in Ondo state. We don’t have problems. Somebody like Olusola Oke left. But he has returned and I am sure in his second coming, he will stay for us longer.
“The party is growing and it is growing in a manner that all of us are happy about it that we have a solid party on group.
“So, when there is no problem, you don’t need a peace maker so that he will not come and create problem. We don’t need the peace maker. We are saying that we are at peace with ourselves. Let us run the party the way we have been running it.”
