Bill Seeking Special Status For Lagos, Passes Second Stage

By Adenike Lucas

The Bill seeking special economic status for Lagos state has passed the second stage at the House of Representatives.

If passed into law, Lagos will receive 20 per cent of all proceeds accruing to the Federal Government which would be used for critical infrastructure and to cater to its rising population.

A similar Bill suffered defeat in the Senate but it was repackaged by the lower house.

The Bill was promoted by member for Lagos,  Babajimi Benson of the All Progressives Congress.

Hon Benson was supported by colleagues from Anambra,  Kano and Adamawa.

Hon. Linda Chuba Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party (Anambra),  Hon. Danburam Abubakar Nuhu APC (Kano) and Hon. Sadiq Ibrahim (Adamawa).

They all described it as the ‘unity bill.’
