Congratulatory Messages Pour In For Ondo’s Governor-Elect

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress was declared the winner of the November 26, Governorship elections by the INEC chief returning officer, Abdul-Ganiu Ambali of the University of Ilorin. 

Mr Akeredolu received 244, 842 votes to beat his closest challenger, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 150, 380 votes.

Message of support and congratulations have been pouring in from different angles for the new Governor-Elect, since the announcement of the results.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari ‏who attended the grand finale rally for Mr Akeredolu’s campaign called the victory at the poll for his party’s candidate: “A huge win! The unity & resilience of our party was tested — I’m glad we emerged victorious. Congratulations Gov-Elect @RotimiAkeredolu”


The Senate President, Bukola Saraki stated that “Ondo could not have made a better choice than @RotimiAkeredolu . Welcome on board!”

Bola Ahmed Tinubu ‏@AsiwajuTinubu  -” I extend congratulations to Mr. Akeredolu SAN on the outcome of D election and for his perseverance and persistence in seeking that office.

“I must also  congratulate the  people of Ondo State for their generally exemplary conduct on election day & for demonstrating their will to shun the regressive politics of yesterday by  returning to D  progressive brand of politics that has been D trademark of the people.

“Your election has been had and held. Now is the time that all must  work for the continued development, prosperity and peace of your state.

“I appeal to all party members including  those who have been disaffected from the primary until today to come together.”

TWEET then came from the outgoing Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko – ‏@Segunmimiko:  “I congratulate the Governor-elect, @RotimiAkeredolu, SAN, and wish him success in the challenging task of governing our dear State.

In another tweet, Mr Akeredolu’s counterpart in Ogun, Bauchi and Edo wished him well.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun said “the victory of Akeredolu in the Ondo polls also portend a good omen for the collective development and progress of the Southwest geo political zone under the progressive socio-political and economic ideals of the APC.”

The Ogun State governor urged the Ondo governor-elect to see his emergence as an opportunity to unite the entire people of the state, regardless of political affilliation or tendency.

The senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District, Professor Ajayi Boroffice was among those who supported Mr Akeredolu. He sent a congratulatory message via his media aide

In the message, Professor Boroffice said: “There is no doubt that the challenges ahead of the governor-elect are enormous, especially in the areas of job creation, economy, and security of lives and properties in Ondo State.
“However, because the challenges are not insurmountable, I will continue to pray for him to surmount the challenges ahead.”

Garba Shehu, an Official Spokesperson to President Buhari who was celebrating his 57th birthday said “@RotimiAkeredolu, your victory at the polls is the best gift for me on my BIRTHDAY today.”

The Hon. Minister of Health, Professor Issac Adewole also congratulated Mr Akeredolu and President Buhari.

The inauguration will take place on February 24, 2017
