CASE AGAINST EFF LEADER, MALEMA POSTPONED TO JUNE 5, 2017

A Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court has postponed the case against the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Julius Malema to June 5, 2017.

Mr Malema who is tipped to become South Africa’s next president appeared in court today, November 14, to fight off charges that contravene the 1956 Riotous Assemblies Act.

The  prosecution announced last month that it had instituted criminal prosecutions against Mr Malema on two counts of incitement to commit the crime of trespassing for his address in Magaung on 16 December 2014 and at a political rally held at Madadeni‚ Newcastle on 26 June 2016.

Tumi Mokwena, Mr Malema’s legal representative made it known before the case today, that his client had approached the High Court in order to challenge the constitutionality of the apartheid-era law.

Today’s proceedings were postponed pending the High Court application.
